Magnetic Field of a Ring Magnet

By

The north and south poles of a bar magnet can be easily identified by hanging it with a thread and seeing its orientation with respect to geographic north. The magnetic field lines of the bar magnet can be drawn very easily using a magnetic compass. This experiment is to locate the poles of a ring magnet and draw its magnetic field lines.

Take a ring magnet. Hang it with a thread. Find and mark the north pole and the south pole of this magnet. Take another ring magnet and do the same. Verify by observing attraction between opposite poles and repulsion between like poles.

Draw the magnetic field lines of the ring magnet using the magnetic compass.
