National Anveshika Experimental Skills Test (NAEST 2021)

NAEST Previous Year Solutions

NAEST, conducted by IAPT, is aimed to inculcate the culture of doing physics experiments. Link for NAEST Registeration| Posters

IAPT (Indian Association of Physics Teachers) is committed to improving the quality of physics education in India. Established in 1984, it has more than 8000 life members, who act as a workforce to implement its programs. Anveshika is a program of IAPT. Anveshika are centers where students and teachers can learn experiment-based physics.

Anveshika

26 Anveshikas are located in various parts of the country. These centers develop innovative experiments, strengthen the teaching/learning experience, and promote the culture of doing experiments. All Anveshikas are coordinated under NANI (National Anveshika Network of India). Prof. HC Verma is the NANI coordinator.

NAEST-2021

Every year, NANI conducts National Anveshika Experimental Skills Test (NAEST) to inculcate the culture of doing experiments. It is a unique examination, the first of its kind in the country. NAEST-2021 will be organized for two groups of students:

  1. Junior group with participants age up to 18 years (age on 31 July 2021)
  2. Senior group with participants age above 18 years (age on 31 July 2021)
For each group, NAEST-2021 will be conducted in three stages - (i) screening (ii) prelims (iii) finals.

Screening, Prelims and Finals

Screening stage: This stage will have an online video quiz. The questions will be based on short videos of physics phenomena/experiments. A video will be displayed on the screen, followed by one or more multiple-choice questions based on the displayed video. There will be 8 to 10 videos. The questions will test a student's observation skills and understanding of the subject. The students who do well in the screening stage will be considered fit for the prelims stage.

The registration for NAEST 2021 will start from 1st August 2021. The screening test will be held in second half of the September 2021.

Prelims stage: This stage focuses on performing experiments, analyzing experimental data, and deriving inference. The students will be given write-up of the experiments. The experiments are carefully designed so that they can be performed at home with easily available materials. The student will perform the experiment at home based on the experimental write-up provided to them. The students will be evaluated on multiple criteria. Those who do well will qualify for the finals.

Final stage: This stage will have more rigorous experiments. The students will be either called to Kanpur or will be provided with materials for doing these experiments at home.

Registration

There is no registration fee. Any Indian student studying in class 9/ 10/ 11/ 12/ B.Sc/ M.Sc from any State Board/ Central Board or affiliated Colleges/ Universities of India can register for NAEST-2021.

Note: Students not fulfilling the above criteria are advised not to register. Those not fulfilling the eligibility criteria will be disqualified.

Prizes

Screening: A student will be given participation certificate if his/her performance in screening stage is better than cut-off marks.

Prelims: Regional level prizes for each region: First - Rs. 1000/- , Second - Rs. 750/-, Third - Rs. 500/-

Finals: National level prizes: Winner Rs 5000/-, First runner up Rs 3000/-, Second runner up: Rs 2000/-. National level prizes are under IAPT-Shilpa Nandkumar Memorial Award constituted for Junior and Senior groups separately.
